Banner, Text
& Traffic Exchanges
by Kenneth Catto
When it comes to
promoting your web site or affiliate program on
the internet there are several ways to do so.
Banner, Text and Traffic Exchanges are very
popular marketing instruments. But what exactly
are the differences between them?
What is a traffic
exchange?
A traffic exchange is a popular marketing and
advertising tool.
Many millions of hits and visitors are generated
each day by the many traffic exchanges traffic
exchanges. Some of these traffic exchanges have
a very large member base.
The basic guiding idea is that you show me your
site and I will show you mine.
Members will earn hits by viewing other members
web sites. These hits can be exchanged for other
members views to their web site.
There is however another distinction. That
between an auto surf program (where essentially
web sites are loaded into a browser, but not
necessarily seen by a human being) and manual
surf traffic exchanges. If you want to be sure
your web site or opportunity is actually seen by
a human being, choose the latter.
What is a banner
exchange?
Banner exchanges have been around almost as long
as HTML.
For almost a decade and a half analysts have
been predicting the rise and fall of this
advertising medium, most at some time predicting
the eventual demise in the same way scientists
discuss entropy yet they are still in use and
still very popular.
Members joining a
banner exchange network do so because they want
their banners seen across the chosen network.
Like a traffic exchange they can purchase
credits or earn them by displaying banners on
their own website. Another benefit might be the
boost to link popularity as banners (with urls
linking to your site) may show up everywhere on
the internet.
What is a Text
Exchange?
Text exchanges have been around almost as long
as banner exchanges.
The success of Google’s AdWords sometimes
misleads people to believe it is a new
phenomenon, however Google undoubtedly
introduced a recognizable format that has been
quickly taken on by other advertising
publishers.
A text exchange has proven to be an advertising
and publishing service that produces a popular
format can be an entertaining as well as
profitable adventure.
All three services
mentioned focus on reciprocally. More or less
people helping one another by introducing
opportunities / web sites to each other.
It is not necessary to work all three to promote
your web site. Although the click thru rate of
banner and text exchanges can be low it
certainly helps to offer a wide variety of sites
linking to your website and helps establishing
recognition of your web site and opportunity.
