Potpourri

Potpourri is simple to make from a mixture of petals and aromatic leaves; they are preserved with a fixative oil or essence, available from our store.

Experiment with whatever flowers you have available. Leaves you can use include balm, hyssop, mint, thyme, santolina, marjoram, cranesbill, angelica, artemisia, and sweet bergamot.

Basic recipe
10 dried pot marigold heads
6 dried pelargonium leaves
dried petals of 5 roses
2 teaspoons of dried lavender
2 drops rose fixative

Mix all ingredients well in a large bowl. Seal the potpourri in a dry airtight jar for two weeks before putting it out in bowls.

Autumn recipe
16 tablespoons of snipped balsam needles
20 miniature pine cones
8 tablespoons rosehips
2 drops pine-scented fixative

Mix all ingredients well in a large bowl. Seal the potpourri in a dry airtight jar for two weeks before putting it out in bowls.

Lavender recipe
4 cups dried lavender
6 drops lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon allspice
1 tablespoon mace

Mix all ingredients together then put in paper bags and fold over loosely. Keep in a dark, cool place to cure for about 7 weeks before putting the potpourri out in bowls.
